Open positions - postdoctoral associate

Research Fellow Position in Tissue Engineering and/or Gene Therapy, Lahann Laboratory, University of Michigan

We are looking for candidates highly experienced in the field of cellular biology or cellular biomedical engineering with interests in interdisciplinary material science projects centered around tissue engineering, gene therapies, and/or genetic barcoding.

My group at the University of Michigan (UM) focuses on the intersect between engineering and biomedical research. For this position we are particularly interested in candidates with practical skills in the areas of tissue, molecular, or cell biology studies, with a focus on tissue engineering and/or non-viral gene therapies. Strong collaborations exist within the UM Biointerfaces Institute (BI) and the UM Medical School. Further information about our laboratory and work can be found on our website: https://www.lahannlab.com/

Two projects are being considered for applicants with appropriate backgrounds:

Project 1 Details: Development of synthetic/hybrid cell and tissue scaffolds for personalized treatment in the field of cancer biology. This project is an industry-academic joint venture.

Project 2 Details: Assessment of gene expression in a variety of cell models. Specifically, this role will contribute to the development of improved gene expression in the field of non-viral gene therapies. This project is a component of a multi-year effort by the Lahann group and collaborators in the UM medical school.

Required skills: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other appropriate disciplines. We are looking for a team player with profound knowledge and experience in tissue culturing & amp; characterization, cellular uptake studies, and gene expression. Good communication skills and willingness to work in an international, multidisciplinary team are mandatory. A desire to learn about materials science applications in biomedicine and to mentor graduate student researchers is required.

Start date: as soon as possible.

Application procedure: Please email your cover letter and CV, including publication list and references, with available starting date to lahann@umich.edu or taehwa@umich.edu.

Open positions - PhD or masters students

Interested graduate students (PhD or masters) must first be admitted to the University of Michigan through one of our lab’s affiliated departments before joining the lab. Prof. Lahann is a faculty member in the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Macromolecular Science and Engineering Program. If admitted and interested in our work, please contact Prof. Lahann directly at lahann@umich.edu for information regarding open graduate student positions.

Open positions - undergraduate students

We are always seeking motivated undergraduate students at the University of Michigan to join our lab. Interested students should contact Prof. Lahann at lahann@umich.edu with a copy of your CV/resume.
